Multiculturality and Cultural Enclavisation in Transylvania

Răzvan Roșu was born in Transylvania, a region with a predominantly Romanian culture, specifically influenced by the Moți and Oșeni groups. This culture is characterized by interactions with Hungarian and German (Swabian) communities, as well as with Ukrainian, Roma, and Jewish populations. The book explores these diverse worlds, referencing the Moți of the Carei Plain, the Țara Moților region, the Satu Mare Swabians, and the Hungarians and Romanians of the city of Satu Mare, along with the Oșeni of Țara Oașului and Roma musicians, among others. The cases analyzed reflect Transylvania’s multi-ethnic and multilingual landscape. The primary method employed in the studies presented in this volume is fieldwork. Each chapter highlights the vital importance of fieldwork in enhancing our understanding of current inter-ethnic and religious conflicts, as well as in developing strategies for their resolution.
